What Did We San Franciscans Have Delivered in Food in 2017
San Francisco is a big delivery-to-your-door kind of town. Hit the mobile favs dial, or use an online ordering app, tap a link to pay, and the food is soon steaming its way to you in one of a fleet of delivery cars, motorbikes, bikes or robots. Last year, nationwide, there were over 1.7 billion restaurant delivery orders, and SF had a pretty big percentage of those. Morgan Stanley projects that by 2020 total U.S. sales of food ordered through Caviar or Doordash will hit nearly $16 billion.
For some SF restaurants delivery is 25% of their total business. And Young Fava, newly opened in 2017, only delivered, but closed soon after because the demand was too overwhelming.
Here are the most popular dishes ordered in SF in 2017:
- Buttermilk fried chicken
- Steak fries
- Fried chicken sandwich
- Pad See Ew
- Torta sishes
- Carnitas burritos
- Vegetable nachos
- Garlic knots
- Italian sandwiches
- Takoyaki
